"Healthy lifestyles can reduce the risk of dementia by 30%"


Eat healthy, exercise, sleep well and have a positive attitude in life are some of the infallible recipes, experts say, to take care of health. But what is the most important thing to take care of our brain? What are the worst enemies of brain health? As the neuroscientist David Bartrés-Faz explains, healthy lifestyles also work for the brain; in fact, they could reduce the risk of dementia by 30%. We wanted to know more about how to age better and know the latest research related to the brain and we have done this interview. Dr. David Bartrés-Faz has been studying the brain for more than 20 years. He knows it well. He is a researcher at the Institute of Neurosciences of the University of Barcelona and the IDIBAPS and coordinator of the Barcelona Brain Stimulation Lab (BBSLab). He also leads the only representative group in southern Europe in the European project LifeBrain, that analyzes the keys to cognitive aging of more than 6,000 people. He is also one of the people in charge of the Barcelona Brain Health Initiative project of the Guttmann Institute and the Obra Social "la Caixa. He gave a few months ago the Healthy Workshop: Lifestyles and brain health: Barcelona Brain Health Initiative, organized by the Health Sciences Studies of the Open University of Catalonia (UOC). The main field of study of this neuroscientist is to discover the key life patterns to maintain a healthy brain and this is what he told us.   Read full interview here:
