Dr David Bartrés Faz, BBHI Principal Investigator, has been appointed as the new chair of the International Alzheimer’s Association’s (ISTAART) ‘Reserve, Resilience and Protective Factors’ professional interest group. The two-year appointment was announced at the group’s annual executive meeting on September 20th.
The ISTAART group includes more than 800 professionals worldwide who work to investigate and advance knowledge of the environmental factors and biological mechanisms that maintain brain function in older age and are protective in Alzheimer’s disease.
In mid-2021, the Barcelona Brain Health Initiative initiated a scientific collaboration with Professor Henrik Zetterberg of the University of Gothenburg (Sweden), an international reference expert in the study and characterization of new biomarkers of Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Zetterberg’s team is analyzing blood samples collected at BBHI to identify markers that, combined with information collected on cognitive testing, lifestyle and neuroimaging data, will contribute to a better understanding of individual differences in brain health at older ages.
